General Information about Employment in the Olson Lab

Undergraduate students in their freshman or sophomore years who are interested in doing research with Dr. Olson should email her at iolson[at]psych.upenn.edu. The typical time commitment is 10 hours per week. Some summer opportunities also exist for undergraduates. Work-study students should contact Dr. Olson prior to the beginning of each semester.

Students interested in research assistant positions should contact Dr. Olson by email. Research assistantships require a 2-year committment and several skills are required including strong computer skills (e.g. evidence of skills with Matlab, UNIX, C++, etc.) and some knowledge of cognitive psychology and/or neuroscience.

Post-doctoral applicants should contact Dr. Olson by email. If there is an opening in the lab, a CV, one page single-spaced statement of previous research, one page single-spaced statement of future research interests, and two letters of recommendation will be required.

Postdoctoral Position Human Cognitive Neuroscience: Visual Memory and Visuomotor Preparation

Laboratory of Dr. Ingrid Olson, Temple University, Philadelphia PA, USA

An excellent training opportunity exists for a qualified candidate to be involved in postdoctoral research that utilizes converging methods to study the dorsal visual stream. Supported by an NIH-funded project, the postdoc will use a combination of psychophysical methods, fMRI, TMS, and human lesion methods. Facilities: Reserach resources include a 3T MRI scanner, TMS equipment, and access to an established lesion population. The post-doc will have the opportunity to interact with a large network of collaborators in the greater Philadelphia area.

Term and Salary: The start date can range from now until February, 2008. One year of funding, on the NIH scale, plus benefits, is guarenteed, more may be available. Post-doc will have office space at Temple University, Dept. of Psychology, and possibly University of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia is a beautiful and affordable city, a 2-hour train ride away from NYC and Washington D.C.

Qualifications: Candidates should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in psychology or neuroscience. Expertise in MatLab or C++ programming is highly desirable. Previous experience with fMRI is useful.
